The use of smartphones in ophthalmology: technological development and application

Objective: Technological development has promoted several advances in society, including the creation of smartphones, which have been increasingly used medicine, especially ophthalmology. This study aimed to review use smartphones Methods: In January 2020, MEDLINE and LILACS databases were selected provide articles containing terms “Ophthalmology” “Smartphone”, filtering results between years 2015 2019. The evaluated outcomes finally included into following categories discussion: “Visual acuity”, “Amblyopia strabismus”, “Anterior segment”, “Posterior “Glaucoma”, “Community patient education assistance” “Neurophthalmology”. Results: Smartphones can be useful different areas ophthalmology patients better understating adhesion their treatment. Conclusion: Applications as tools facilitate work professionals improve understanding about clinical conditions.
